If you suffer from the fear of small spaces then there is claustrophobia treatment available. This is actually classified as a type of anxiety illness and about 5% of people around the world suffer from very severe claustrophobia. The main concern is that only a small percentage of those diagnosed with claustrophobia actually receive treatment.

Two key symptoms have been discovered for those that suffer from claustrophobia and they include the fear of being restricted or in a restrictive place and the fear of suffocation. Some such circumstances that can evoke this fear include being in a cellar, caves, tunnels, cars, locked rooms, elevators, crowded areas, small rooms and subway trains to name just a few situations. However some individuals may have a response when they are told to stay in one spot such as waiting online or getting their hair cut.

One of the most widely used treatments for claustrophobia is cognitive therapy and this method is actually used for the majority of all anxiety disorders. This is very effective particularly if the patient not only fears the situation but the result of being in that situation. The main step of cognitive therapy is to change the misconceptions associated with at fear. So instead of feeling anxious in small spaces you begin to feel calmer.

Cognitive therapy is one of the most touted treatments as it is very effective. This is a type of behavioral therapy that is used for all types of anxiety. This works not only on the fear of a situation but on the results that that individual may fear from being in that situation. Basically you are training yourself to have a different reaction to your stressful situations. So instead of becoming anxious then you become calmer.

Interceptive exposure is also used and this tries to decrease their claustrophobic reactions in a controlled environment. This is basically just much less intense then in vivo treatment. However this method was not found to have as high success rates as cognitive and invivo treatment. Most sufferers of claustrophobia can trace it back to a specific event.

The most successful treatments use behavioral therapy or exposure therapy but here are also drug treatments. These drugs tend to be those used to treat anxiety and include beta blockers and anti-depressants. Though many of these medications can have several side effects and cannot be combined with other medications.

To determine the severity of your claustrophobia a scale was developed in 1979 as 20 questions are currently used to diagnosis claustrophobia. These questions can also uncover your main symptoms so you can get the right treatment from the beginning.

Marcelo Quijanios is a freelance writer. At the moment he is making an analysis a new method to alleviate him of his anxiety panic attacks. The testimonials about this treatment are very promising and claim to have helped a lot of people in our country.

Are you attempting to find out the way to stop panic attacks? Are you bored with doing so much research on how to stop panic attacks ? This may surprise you. It is possible to stop your panic disorder without the use of medicine or drugs. Many folks try to fight their panic attack off and they finish up making the attack stronger. When you accept the panic attack and take it for what it actually is, you are then able to take control of it. Once you accept it for what it is, your attack will go away without having to take any medication or drugs.

Whatever you target will expand so when you’re focusing and giving your attention to your panic attack, it will keep growing and becoming worse. All of unexpected it starts in your stomach and then triggers all through your body at last leading you to have chest discomfort and causing breathing issues. While having this experience, you start sweating brooding about the worst things that may happen to you including a heart attack. Your fear has taken over. That is the very first thing to understand about having a panic attack. Panic attacks are caused by fear. An actual event does not cause anxiety. Also, having a panic attack won’t do any harm to you.

Are you curios to understand what is happening in your brain while a panic attack is happening? While having your anxiety attack, your obsession over what has happened to you is giving energy to something that is not going down.

A major lesson in recovery is learning how to separate fact from fantasy. When confronting your panic attack, you are actually keeping it from getting out of control. When realizing that it’s a panic attack and it’s not real, you may keep it from escalating into something that it is not. Eventually, you’ll begin to see your panic attacks not as powerful and begin to reduce noticeably. Your grey matter is answerable for this by training itself over time to defeat your anxiety.

Before you know it, your panic disorder will vanish from your life. The strategy and techniques that are provided to learn these steps are only as hard as an individual makes it. Your intelligence is so potent and can finish things that you would not believe.

For those people who have an addiction, or for those affected by the addiction of a loved one or close friend, it’s clear what an addiction means in “real” terms. Addictions come in all shapes and forms. Difficult to define exactly, it has become popular to think of almost any behavior that has a compulsive quality as an “addiction.”

Some people with mental health problems use different substances to self-medicate, but end up making things worse. According to research gathered at the Centre for Addictions and Mental Health in Ontario, more than half of people with substance use disorders also have mental health issues such as anxiety or depression. The relationship between mental health issues and substance use is convoluted.

Common Characteristics of Destructive Addictions: The substance activity or activity that triggers must initially cause feelings of pleasure and changes in emotion or mood. The body develops a physical tolerance to the substance or activity, so people with addictions so people must take larger and larger amounts of a substance to feel the same effects. The removal of the drug or activity causes painful withdrawal symptoms. More than physical tolerance, an addiction develops physical and psychological dependence separate from the need to avoid the pain of withdrawal.

The answer lies in the brain. Repeated drug use alters the brain-causing long-lasting changes to the way it looks and functions. These brain changes interfere with your ability to think clearly, exercise good judgment, control your behavior, and feel normal without drugs. These changes are also responsible, in large part, for the drug cravings and compulsion to use that make addiction so powerful.

So when this flutter of activity increases the creation of dopamine for the negative behaviors and substances like drugs, alcohol, gambling, etc., it neglects the natural survival instinct reaction mechanisms, replacing them with the ecstasy instead. The problem is the brain doesn’t realize what it is that is causing the ecstasy reaction.

Addiction always causes psychological, chemical, and anatomical changes in the brain along with behavior changes. Addiction develops after an initial exposure to the addicting substance or activity. That initial exposure must occur for addiction to develop, but addiction does not always develop. The cycle of quitting the addictive behavior, going through withdrawal, and relapsing may become self-reinforcing.

Some people inherit a vulnerability to the addictive properties of drugs. Studies have shown that the risk of substance use disorders is higher for people who have a close relative with addictions. It’s been argued that in some cases, using substances to self-medicate is a learned behavior to cope with stress. Even if a person has a genetic vulnerability to addiction, it does not necessarily mean he will become an addict.

There is always a reason why a person develops an addiction. More often than not other factors that are behind addictions include chaos in the family unit, poverty, having physical, emotional or sexual abuse in the past or present to deal with or conflict. Families play a strong role in substance abuse recovery. With support from family members who are non-judgmental, a person with addictions is more likely to stay in treatment and have a successful outcome.

You’re merrily driving on the highway, having your window open, making an attempt to hear the radio, when suddenly : Boom, it is there! The dreaded panic attack! You are all of a sudden encircled in a flow of heavy traffic on both sides, feeling very high or inebriated with everything being imaginary or surreal. You are dizzy, confused and just barely realizing what is going on on. But you do know this : you have a total panic attack.

I know, because I have been through it. Not everybody feels like you are right or drunk, there are a spread of symptoms that you can experience. Other symptoms that you might experience are :

Heart battering Shaking doubt Dizzy Sick to your gut Feel just like you’re dying or going mad

These are all very common symptoms. We don’t experience each one of them at the same time. Some folks only experience 2 these, other different ones every time. I do not believe there is an answer why is that.

However, it’s good to grasp some of the activators of anxiety panic attack while driving, so you can recognize them. They might help you, because once you recognize they are triggers, you are aware to what has happened to you. If you know what it is, you’re no longer afraid of it, you are AWARE.

Driving an unknown car Driving on an unknown road The pressure to overtake slow drivers Strong incoming traffic, particularly in a rough weather ( rain, mist, etc ) Signs reminding you of death on the roads ( seeing flowers, crosses along the road, commemoratives ) Crossing a narrow bridge

If, while driving, you are feeling the first suggestions of a panic attack approaching, don’t panic! ( I know, simpler said than done ). Slow down, and pull over your car, if you can. If you can’t, thanks to the road circumstances, then ensure you drive slowly, do not fret about the other drivers honking on you. It’s their problem, not yours. Open your window, take some fresh air, inhale intensely. If you have water with you, drink a bit. Ensure that you always have a pleasant, relaxing CD with you, that you already know and love. Familiarity is really significant to fall back to.

A panic attack is an overpowering fearfulness that happens for no obvious reason. Some may have a single occurrence or two in their whole lives some may possibly suffer from panic disorder on an ongoing basis. However frequently they manifest they are often frightening plus the physical symptoms overpowering and people have been known to phone emergency medical assistance when the first anxiety attack occurs.

The symptoms could could be seen as a heart attack or another life-threatening emergency with excessive sweating, prickling or pins and needles, along with other symptoms present. One of the toughest things about an anxiety attack is the the worry of having to deal with another anxiety attack.

Previously, anxiety attacks were labeled a ‘nervous’ disorder or even stress however repeated panic attacks are described as a medical condition known as panic disorder. This is an inappropriate flight or fight response.

The body is overloaded with hormones as well as adrenaline, which we utilize to respond to life threatening events in normal situations, even so, with an anxiety attack there isn’t any danger the sufferer can identify. Anxiety attacks are different from common anxiety in that the attack is normally quick developing within just 10 minutes.

Repeated anxiety attacks are generally addressed with therapy and may well be connected with a mental dysfunction or they may have no obvious explanation. An isolated panic attack might need no treatment, but frequent anxiety attacks or panic disorder is often addressed with behavioral therapy, drugs and self-help or along with treatment options for other sorts of psychological problems.

Just like a variety of mental problems, the exact reasons behind panic disorder might not be totally understood but are associated with inherited genes, stress as well as certain chemical changes within the brain. Behavioral cognitive therapy (BCT) has shown a lot of promise in dealing with anxiety attacks and statistics signify it is the most successful for long-term management of anxiety attacks.

Therapy quite often involves only encouraging the person to be aware of exactly what an anxiety attack actually is. It can help whenever they recognize that they are not alone in being affected by panic attacks and when they realize how to manage symptoms. Of course, this depends on other elements like whether the person is suffering from a phobia which triggers the anxiety attack as well. Serotonin uptake inhibitors can be utilized in conjunction or after the treatment.

Panic Attacks most likely are not life threatening although they might really feel just as if they are. However if they are chronic and continual (anxiety disorder) they could be crippling for the victim.

Victims might not realize when an anxiety attack might appear and therefore start to refrain from going out (agoraphobia) or avoid particular situations where they feel they could experience an anxiety attack. Unsure when something as disabling as an anxiety attack could occur may have severe damaging social, economic and relationship effects when they continue to take place.

In the case of a panic attack, physical reasons are ruled out first. Sometimes the sufferer could have been to many medical professionals thinking that they have a terminal disorder that has not been clinically determined. After physical causes are ruled out, the proper treatment method can be suggested and management of panic attacks will start.

We live in a stressful world these days, and so it’s hardly a surprise that so many people suffer from acute forms of anxiety. In fact, a significant amount of people need to find ways of overcoming panic attacks on a daily basis. I also used to suffer from attacks of anxiety, so I know what a real and debilitating problem they are. I found a solution myself though, and it involved regaining control of my thoughts and mind – no prescription drugs were needed at all.

So, how did I come up with the solution that stopped my anxiety episodes? Well, let me first say that I’m not a doctor or psychologist, or a medical practitioner of any sort for that matter. I was just a desperate suffer of panic attacks that was determined to try anything to stop them. I set about reading and researching as much as I could on the topic, and tried out various methods, such as breathing techniques and thinking happy thoughts. The problem was that nearly all of the methods that I came across were coping techniques, which would never solve the problem outright. Eventually though, my persistence paid off, and I came across a method that stops anxiety episodes altogether, by really getting to the root of the problem.

At the core of the method that stopped my panic attacks was the principle that it’s not the arising of anxious thoughts that’s the problem, but rather the way in which they are reacted to. Everyone has anxious thoughts – they are as natural an occurrence as happy thoughts – so they in themselves aren’t the problem. Therefore, it something in way that those anxious thoughts are processed that is the problem. The solution lies in mimicking the thought processes of those people who don’t suffer from panic attacks. Non-sufferers don’t examine anxious thoughts, they simply arise, pass and fade away, whereas for sufferers, an anxious thought arises, gets examined, gives rise to another anxious thought, which also gets examined, then there are two anxious thoughts together, which results in an even bigger anxious thought, etc. Essentially, a cycle of fear forms, and that is what needs to be targeted. Break that cycle and you will be free from panic attacks.

To break the cycle of fear that arises from a single anxious thought, you need to follow a three step process: label – watch – proceed. When the anxious thought first arises, you need to label it as such, literally tell yourself that “this is an anxious thought”. Don’t try to ignore it, instead confront it. Then, watch and be aware of the reactions that your body is giving, and know that you have the power to control them, just as you control your reactions when you have happy thoughts. Finally, proceed with what you were doing prior to the anxious thought. It’s done, it’s over with, it was an insignificant part of your day.

This method isn’t complicated and, if it worked for me, and I was a bad anxiety sufferer, then it can help you in overcoming panic attacks too.

One of the most powerful sources of motivation is to have a purpose for what you do. At this point, you are probably saying, “Okay, it doesn’t take a brain surgeon to understand that I have a purpose. I get up and go to work to make money. That is my purpose.” I can understand thinking that and it seems to be a logical way to think. However, it is the wrong way to think and a thought process conditioned by society. I believe this thought process often leads to lack of motivation. Going to work to make money is not a purpose; it is a reason to go to work. Let me repeat for emphasis, it is not a purpose.

Why do you do what you do? What is your true purpose? I define purpose very simply- it is the reason you are on the big blue ball called earth.

To find your purpose, follow these easy steps: 1) Find a large mountain 2) Climb it. 3) Locate the guru in the long flowing white robe 4) Ask him “Master what is my purpose?” 5) Wait for answer 6) Leave mountain immediately and apply! I wish it were that easy. There are many steps in finding your purpose and it requires study, work and some very hard soul searching to determine what you want your life to stand for and be about. Some people are lucky and this happens to them by accident. Most people, however have to work to find it. Here are some ideas and techniques for finding your purpose:

One sheet exercise- Take out a blank piece of paper. On that piece of paper, write down a list of all the things you are really good at and have been good at all your life. (This is not the time to be modest) You either know or have been told what you are good at all of your life. Once you have filled the page with talents or gifts, take a look at the page. Does anything stand out to you? Any common things? Let’s say your list is filled with things like writing, art, brainstorming, or painting. Maybe the central theme around the page is creativity and your purpose is to create as your contribution to the world.

Q…A Today Get some paper and a pen and go to your favorite quiet room. Ask yourself the following questions: 1 ) Someday when I am older what the heck do I want to have accomplished? Why are those things important to me ? 2) What are 2-3 things that you will regret if you do not do them in your lifetime? 3) Why were you born? Do you think you have specific gifts or talents you were meant to use? Why? 4) Fill in the blank; I was meant to be a ______________________. Why do you think that? 5) What is very important to you in your life? Why?

Ask others Pick 10 people that you either know or have known and take an informal survey. (Okay this one requires some real honest to goodness guts) Ask them what they think you are “meant to do”. Ask your Mom, your Grandma, or your crazy Uncle Larry. Ask your golf buddy, a co-worker. Now you are wondering why I am asking you to do this crazy exercise. Sometimes other people can see things in you that you can’t. They may give you’re a different view. As you get answers from people you have to be willing to sort through and edit the answers. Be careful not to pick people who are negative or critical. This can be very valuable feedback and may lead to a revelation from the person you least expect it from.

Latex or nitrile gloves are mainstays in our fight against the spread of infection and in our promotion of wellness throughout medicine. Their use ranges from the simplest procedures in a wellness checkup to the complexities of the operating room. We have come to rely on the reassuring sound of a glove snapping into place on a health worker’s hands before an exam, giving us confidence that both the health worker’s and the patient’s exposure risks are being reduced.

Not that long ago in our history, our understanding of illness blamed evil spirits or bad drains for bad health. Now the microscope has brought the rapidly proliferating world of microorganisms both to light and to the public’s consciousness. And with this scientific awareness, there is a drive to eradicate the physical beasties we have discovered.

Naturally, a gut reaction to watching magnified bacteria colonize at their incredulous rate is the desire to immediately stamp them out. Household marketing strategists are fully aware of this shock and awe effect and have manipulated it to play on our deepest insecurities about being ‘invaded’ and playing host to ‘body snatchers’. Apart from the widespread use of clinical antibiotics, there is now an endless promotion of anti-bacterial cleaning agents for the body and home, including latex gloves, available on grocery shelves.

Now alarms are sounding thought out the scientific community that we have gone too far in our combat against bacteria. We have ended up compromising our immune systems in some cases, with our fixation on wiping out germs. The hygiene hypothesis is a line of thinking that has a growing following. It suggests that if we are not living with a proper balance of bacteria and microscopic life, we run the risk of autoimmune disorders, our immune systems becoming desperately out of whack. Some concerned parents have taken this message to heart and are deliberately encouraging their children to play in the dirt for the betterment of their health. (For a story on this, see the January 27, 2009 edition of www.nytimes.com.)

For some truly “live” entertainment and an opportunity to make even a very rational person’s skin crawl, it is interesting to take a few short minutes with the video entitled “Our Skin is a Zoo” at www.science.tv. There is some risk that viewing this could drive a borderline case of OCD into hyper-drive but it is good to see what is considered within the range of normal on a clean and healthy person’s body.

The video’s sound bite, “at any given time there are as many bacteria on our skin as there are people on the earth”, is something we should learn to be comfortable with. If after watching this, we can learn to let a quick case of the heebie-jeebies pass over us and then be obsessed no further than regular bathing with ordinary and not antibacterial soap, we will be the stronger for it.

Too much alcohol consumption leads to physical and mental problems. It makes an individual very addicted to the taste and the delusions that it causes when a person is drunk. Alcohol depression causes a person to be unjust with his own judgments. He would rather feel deprived of the solutions that he needs to overcome his/her situations. Drinking too much also causes brain damage and memory loss. It also injures the organs such as the liver and the heart. Alcohol is a big threat to one’s self if not taken with caution.

Alcohol depression makes a person reject progress. It causes a person to reject possible solutions to resolve his/her issues. Alcohol can also intoxicate the brain and other organs as well. Memory is affected so is the liver and heart to function properly. Risks are always inevitable when consuming too much alcohol.

Any problem is to be resolved starting with one’s self. This is also the same when dealing with alcohol depression. A habit can never break without having the initiation to do so. Have a diary to keep track of yourself; observe your habits and see how you should start changing it. Judge what makes you end up drinking every time you have problems. See if drinking does help you resolve anything.

When you’re at home, avoid having your fridge full of alcoholic drinks. Change your diet and your habits. Have healthier choices of foods and drinks. Have fruits, milk and juices for example. Having a healthy diet removes toxins left by the alcohol in your body. Exercise from time to time. Keep your home tidy. Having an unruly environment prohibits a person to think more clearly and brood over alcohol depression. Keep your own place in order to at least not feel more weakened. Your home is the only haven that you could go to after every stressful day.

Get medical attention if you still can’t cope with your alcohol depression. Find someone and have an appointment. Have sessions where you could say it all out. Have someone to listen regarding all your troubles and have someone whom you could listen too for help. This could help you have the ample time to recover for yourself.

Accept things then open your eyes to other possible solutions. If you need some more time then why not treat yourself to a short vacation. Maybe you just need a change of environment to see things more clearly. Just know what to do at least to start a new habit then eventually everything will fall into its place. Break away from alcohol depression and start changing yourself for your own betterment.
